Custom Beef Jerky Bags FAQ
What types of bags are commonly used for beef jerky packaging?
The most common options include stand-up pouches, flat bottom bags and three-side seal bags.
Stand-up pouches are widely used for retail beef jerky because they provide good shelf visibility and can include a resealable zipper.
Flat bottom bags offer a more premium appearance and additional space for branding.
Three-side seal bags are suitable for single-serve packs, sample packs and portion-controlled products.
Roll stock film is available for customers using automated form-fill-seal packaging lines.
We can customize the bag style according to your filling method, product weight, retail channel and packaging equipment.
What material structure do you recommend for beef jerky bags?
Beef jerky generally requires a high-barrier laminated structure to protect the product from oxygen, moisture, light and external odors.
Common material options include:
PET/PE
PET/VMPET/PE
PET/AL/PE
PET/PA/PE
PET/AL/PA/PE
The recommended structure depends on the jerky’s moisture content, oil level, seasoning, target shelf life, filling process and storage conditions. Nylon or aluminum foil layers may be added when higher puncture resistance or barrier performance is required. Honghai Packaging supports multilayer lamination using materials such as PET, BOPP, PA, VMPET, aluminum foil, PE and RCPP.
Can your packaging help extend the shelf life of beef jerky?
Yes. We can design high-barrier beef jerky bags to reduce oxygen and moisture transmission, helping preserve flavor, texture, color and aroma.
However, the final shelf life also depends on:
Product water activity
Processing and sterilization method
Residual oxygen after filling
Use of oxygen absorbers or desiccants
Heat-sealing quality
Storage temperature
Distribution conditions
We recommend that customers conduct shelf-life and compatibility testing using the final jerky product and selected packaging structure before mass production.
Are the bags suitable for oily, spicy or heavily seasoned jerky?
Yes. We can recommend oil-resistant and puncture-resistant laminated films for beef jerky containing oil, chili, sugar, sauces or strong seasonings.
For sharp-edged or hard jerky pieces, a PA/nylon layer can be added to improve puncture resistance. For products with strong aromas, metallized film or aluminum foil can be used to improve odor and oxygen barrier performance.
The sealing layer will also be selected according to the product composition and filling temperature.
Can beef jerky bags be used with oxygen absorbers or desiccants?
Yes. Our custom beef jerky bags can be designed for use with oxygen absorbers, moisture absorbers or desiccant sachets.
For these applications, we normally recommend a high-barrier material structure and sufficient seal strength to reduce oxygen and moisture entering the package after sealing.
The absorber size and packaging material should be validated together with your food technologist or absorber supplier, based on the package volume, residual oxygen and required shelf life.
What accessories can be added to custom jerky bags?
Available customization options include:
Resealable zipper
Tear notch
Round or euro hang hole
Transparent product window
Carry handle for larger packs
Rounded corners
Laser scoring
Degassing or venting solutions where required
Standard zippers, pull-tab zippers, slide zippers, hook-and-loop closures and other functional accessories are available depending on the application.
Can you print our logo and complete packaging design?
Yes. We provide full custom printing for brand logos, product photography, nutritional information, barcodes, QR codes, ingredients and regulatory information.
Available surface finishes include:
Matte finish
Glossy finish
Soft-touch finish
Spot UV
Metallic effects
Gold or silver foil stamping
Holographic effects
Our printing capabilities include digital printing for smaller or multi-SKU orders and rotogravure printing for larger-volume production. The factory supports advanced digital and gravure printing equipment, as well as multicolor printed packaging.
What is your minimum order quantity for custom beef jerky bags?
Our standard digital printing MOQ starts from 1,000 pieces, making it suitable for new jerky brands, market testing, product launches and multiple flavor varieties.
For larger production volumes, gravure printing may provide a more economical unit cost. The exact MOQ depends on:
Bag dimensions
Material structure
Number of designs
Printing method
Accessories
Order quantity per SKU
MOQ requirements can be discussed according to your project and annual purchasing plan.
Can I order several flavors or designs in one production run?
Yes. Digital printing is particularly suitable for customers with multiple beef jerky flavors, regional designs, seasonal packaging or limited-edition products.
Different SKUs may share the same bag dimensions and material structure while using separate printed artwork. This can help reduce inventory pressure and support faster product testing.
Please provide the quantity required for each design so that we can recommend the most cost-effective printing method.
Can you produce custom bag sizes for different jerky weights?
Yes. We manufacture custom sizes rather than limiting customers to standard stock dimensions.
Common pack formats include:
Single-serve sample packs
30–50 g retail packs
80–150 g stand-up pouches
250–500 g family packs
Bulk and wholesale jerky bags
To recommend a suitable size, please provide the product weight, approximate product density, jerky piece dimensions and desired fill level. A physical product sample is helpful for accurate capacity testing.
Do you provide samples before mass production?
Yes. We can provide existing material samples, size samples, printed color references or custom prototypes depending on the project stage.
Samples can be used to evaluate:
Bag size and filling capacity
Material thickness
Barrier structure
Zipper performance
Seal strength
Printing appearance
Product compatibility
For new projects, we recommend completing filling and sealing tests before confirming the final production specification.
How long does production take?
A typical custom packaging schedule includes:
Artwork and design: approximately 1–3 days
Printing cylinder preparation: approximately 5–7 days when required
Mass production: approximately 2–4 weeks
The actual lead time depends on the printing method, material availability, bag structure, accessories, order quantity and production schedule. Honghai Packaging operates multiple production lines and supports both digital and gravure production for different purchasing volumes.
Are your beef jerky bags made with food-grade materials?
Yes. We use new, food-grade raw materials suitable for food packaging applications.
Material structures can be selected according to the destination market and product requirements. Available company materials reference certifications and quality systems including BRCGS and ISO 9001. Specific compliance documents, food-contact declarations and test reports should be confirmed according to the selected material and the importing country’s requirements.
Can the bags withstand shipping and retail distribution?
Yes. We can adjust film thickness, lamination structure, seal width and puncture resistance according to the pack weight and distribution environment.
For heavier packs or jerky with hard edges, we may recommend:
A nylon-reinforced structure
Increased film thickness
Wider heat-seal areas
Stronger bottom gussets
Drop and compression testing
Carton packing optimization
The final packaging should be tested under realistic filling, transport and storage conditions before large-volume production.
Do you offer recyclable or more sustainable jerky packaging?
Yes. Depending on the required shelf life and barrier performance, we can discuss recyclable PE or mono-material packaging options.
Because beef jerky normally requires a relatively strong oxygen and moisture barrier, the sustainable structure must be evaluated carefully. A recyclable structure should not be selected only for marketing purposes if it cannot adequately protect the product.
We can compare conventional multilayer packaging and recyclable alternatives based on barrier performance, sealing conditions, appearance, cost and local recycling requirements.
What information do you need to prepare a quotation?
Please provide as much of the following information as possible:
Bag type
Bag dimensions
Product weight
Jerky type and moisture level
Required shelf life
Material or barrier requirements
Zipper, tear notch, window or hang hole requirements
Number of printed designs
Quantity per design
Filling and sealing method
Destination country
Artwork file in AI, PDF or PSD format
After reviewing the information, we can recommend a suitable packaging structure and prepare a factory quotation for your project.
